Attic black figure lebes. Dedicated to the goddess
Athena on the Acropolis. In the main zone, chariots and hoplites engaged
in compact over the body of a dead warrior. In the backround, behind the
the chariot-horses, are fighting warriors. In the secondary zone is a
cavalry battle. Greek javelin-throwers fight with archers wearing Phrygian
piloi. The other zones are adorned with floral motifs and animals. On the
bottom of the vase are six protomes of horses and lions in a whirligig.
