Mycenaean sword

Gold hilt and pommel revetment decorated with repousse spirals and concentric circles. Finds from a large rectangular stone-built tomb at cape Staphylos , in south east Skopelos island , which Nikolaos Platon excavated in 1936. The site is named Staphylos from a mythical founder of the island's first settlement, who originally came from Crete. The opulent grave gifts show that this tomb belonged to a Mycenaean warrior of the 15th. cent. Bc.
